An IPTV login is the set of details a player app uses to connect to your IPTV account. The most common type is a server login — a server URL, a username and a password — often called an Xtream Codes login; the alternatives are an M3U playlist link or, on some set-top boxes, a portal URL linked to the device's MAC address. All three can give access to the same account; they're just different doors into it.

This guide explains each login type, what terms like "line" and "connection" mean, how to enter your details correctly, and what to do when an IPTV login fails.

The three main login types

Login typeWhat you receiveTypically used with
Server login (Xtream Codes-style)Server URL, username, passwordMost modern IPTV player apps
M3U playlist linkA single URLAlmost any player, including basic ones
Portal / MAC loginPortal URL; account tied to device MAC addressMAG-style set-top boxes and some apps

Server login

The server login format takes its common name from a panel software whose API many players adopted, which is why apps often label the option "Xtream Codes" or "XC". You type three fields:

  • Server URL — the address of the service, sometimes with a port number at the end (for example :8080).
  • Username and password — unique to your account.

Because the player talks to the server directly, it can load live channels, on-demand films and series separately, show account expiry, and refresh quickly. This is usually the most convenient option when a player supports it.

An M3U link packs the same information into one URL that points to a playlist file. It works almost everywhere but tends to load more slowly with large libraries, and on-demand content may appear as one long list. Our IPTV playlist explainer covers the format.

Portal and MAC login

Some set-top boxes use a portal address instead. The provider links your account to the box's MAC address, a hardware identifier, so you only enter the portal URL on the device. It's simple for the user but ties the account to that box. See our IPTV box guide for more on these devices.

Key terms: account, line, connection and server

  • IPTV account — your subscription with the provider.
  • Line — industry shorthand for an account and its credentials. Resellers often talk about "creating a line".
  • Connection — one simultaneous stream. A 2-connection plan lets two devices play at the same time.
  • IPTV server — the system that delivers streams. Your server URL points to it; you don't need to know more than that.
  • Expiry — when the account stops working. Many players show it in an account or settings screen.
  • Activation code or app code — some apps use a short code or the device's MAC address to link a device to an account, rather than typing credentials.

How to enter an IPTV login correctly

  1. Open your player and choose the login type that matches what you received.
  2. Enter the server URL exactly, including http:// or https:// and any port. Don't add or remove a trailing slash unless instructed.
  3. Type the username and password carefully — they're usually case-sensitive.
  4. Give the account a friendly name if the app asks.
  5. Save, then wait while channels, VOD and guide data download.

If you're copying from a message, watch for spaces at the start or end of each field; they're the most common cause of failed logins.

Troubleshooting IPTV login errors

Broader buffering and outage problems are covered in why IPTV stops working.

Keeping your IPTV logins secure

Your login details are effectively a key to a paid account.

  • Don't post screenshots that show your server URL, username or password.
  • Don't share credentials outside your household — it can use up your connections and may break your provider's terms.
  • Be careful with third-party tools that ask for your login, such as online playlist editors — see IPTV playlist editors.
  • If you suspect your details have leaked, ask your provider to reset them.
  • Legitimate support will never need your bank card details over chat.

Moving your login to a new device

When you replace a TV or add a device:

  1. Install the same player (or another compatible one) on the new device.
  2. Enter the same server URL, username and password — or the same M3U link.
  3. Remove the account from devices you no longer use, so they don't count towards your connections if they start streaming in the background.
  4. For portal logins tied to a MAC address, ask your provider to move the account to the new device's MAC address.

Choosing a login type: quick recommendations

  • Your player supports server logins? Use that — it's usually fastest and best organised.
  • Basic player, or you want to edit the channel list? Use the M3U link.
  • Set-top box with a portal setting? Use the portal login the provider sets up for your MAC address.

Logging in with XCode IPTV 8K

When your XCode IPTV 8K order or free 24-hour trial is confirmed, support provides your account details and helps you enter them in a compatible player. The installation guide walks through Android, iOS, PC and Smart TVs, and support is available on WhatsApp and Telegram if a login doesn't work first time.

Summary

An IPTV login is how a player connects to your account. Server logins (server URL, username, password) are the most capable; M3U links are the most universal; portal logins suit certain set-top boxes. Enter details exactly, understand that connections limit simultaneous streams, keep your credentials private, and use the error table above to fix the usual problems quickly.

Frequently asked questions

What is an IPTV line?

'Line' is industry shorthand for an IPTV account. Each line has its own credentials, expiry date and number of allowed connections.

Can I use the same IPTV login on two devices?

Yes, you can enter it on several devices, but only as many can stream at the same time as your plan's connections allow.

Why does my IPTV login say 'invalid credentials'?

Usually a typo, an extra space, the wrong server URL or port, or an expired account. Copy the details again exactly as provided.
